Girl, 14, charged with murder after man stabbed in tourist park

By Savannah Meacham

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with murder after a fatal stabbing at a Big4 Holiday Park in Hervey Bay.

Emergency services were called around 9pm on Saturday following reports a 24-year-old man had been stabbed in the Corser Street caravan park at Point Vernon.

He was taken to Hervey Bay Hospital but died from his injuries.

A girl was taken into custody by Queensland police and later charged with murder.

Detective Acting Inspector Craig Mansfield said it would be alleged the man was stabbed once in the back by the girl he had met only hours earlier.

Mansfield said the stabbing came after “some sort of altercation” in a caravan annex that police believe was witnessed by another 14-year-old girl. He suggested their meeting on the night was not random.

“There’s more questions than answers at this point in time,” Mansfield said, adding that police were interviewing residents and visitors in the area.

The girl will face Hervey Bay Children’s Court on Monday.
