Driver four times alcohol limit crashes into home, police allege
A 72-year-old man was rudely woken and injured on Tuesday when a car, allegedly driven by a woman more than four times the legal blood-alcohol limit, crashed into his Sunshine Coast home.
It will be alleged the 21-year-old woman driving at high speed along Goonawarra Drive in Mooloolaba about 1am when her car mounted the kerb, ploughed through a front yard and smashed into a house.
Paramedics treated the resident, who suffered leg injuries upon impact, and took him to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
Police said the crash caused extensive damage to the home by knocking in the front wall.
It will also be alleged the young woman behind the wheel blew 0.201 at Maroochydore Police Station after returning a positive roadside breath test at the scene.
She was charged with high-range drink-driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle whilst adversely affected and was due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on June 26.
In a statement regarding the incident, police said officers "continued to be frustrated ... by motorists continuing to take unnecessary risks".
