Car fire closes section of Bruce Highway temporarily

By William Davis

A car has gone up in flames, temporarily closing a stretch of the Bruce Highway.

The Holden Captiva SUV caught fire travelling south near Coochin Creek, west of Bribie Island, before 10am on Sunday.

It was unknown what caused the blaze or if the vehicle had crashed.

A witness told Brisbane Times a second car was stopped nearby, but it was unclear whether the two vehicles had collided.

Fire services and police were called to the scene and a section of the Bruce Highway was closed to all southbound traffic.

“It was well [alight] when our crews arrived … everyone was out of the vehicle,” a Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said.
