Brisbane man accused of sharing child abuse material worked at school

A Brisbane man charged with a string of child abuse material crimes this week worked at a school, online records suggest.

Christopher Gerald Savage was arrested after electronic devices were seized from a property in Ipswich on August 20 by Australian Federal Police.

Online records showed a man with the same name had his teaching licence suspended one day after the raid.

The 36-year-old fronted Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday after three charges were laid.

The offences carry a maximum penalty of 45 years in jail.

“[We] are aware of a Queensland Police Service matter involving a staff member,” a Department of Education spokesperson told Brisbane Times.

“As the matter is before the courts, the department is unable to provide further comment.”

A representative for the AFP declined to comment on the specifics of the case, citing ongoing legal proceedings.

“Everything you do online leaves a footprint and is almost impossible to hide,” acting Detective Inspector Claire Arnold said.

“Anyone engaged in illegal activity online can very well expect a knock on the door from law enforcement.”
