Schoolboy injured after being pinned by car in Sydney’s east

A schoolboy has been seriously injured after being pinned between a car and a tree for 40 minutes in Sydney’s east on Tuesday afternoon.

Paramedics were called to the intersection of Gardeners Road and Bunnerong Road in Kingsford about 3.45pm following reports a 17-year-old P-plater had mounted the footpath, hitting a 12-year-old boy.

Emergency crews managed to free the boy after about 40 minutes, police said.

He has been taken to Sydney’s Children Hospital in serious condition after suffering a leg injury, NSW Ambulance said.

The teenage driver of the car was uninjured. He was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for mandatory testing.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

“All northbound lanes of Bunnerong Road are closed at General Bridges Crescent in Kingsford due to a crash involving a car and pedestrian,” the Transport Management Centre said in a statement.

“All westbound lanes of Gardeners Road are also closed at Bunnerong Road.”

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has any dashcam or mobile phone footage to contact Maroubra Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

“Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command have secured a crime scene which will be examined by specialist police,” NSW Police said in a statement.
