Police have launched an investigation into a brawl between players and spectators at an under-13s rugby league game on Saturday in south-west Sydney where one man was knocked to the ground and had his head stomped on.

Police were told two men, aged 39 and 36, linked to different teams were involved in the fight. The 36-year-old man was reportedly knocked to the ground and had his head stomped on.

Bankstown police were called to Ruse Park on Stacey Street in Bankstown at about midday following reports of a fight at a junior rugby league game. No serious injuries were reported to the police and when they arrived, the fighting had stopped and most of the crowd had left.

The division 1 semi-final game involved the Bankstown Bulls and Cabramatta and it ended with the Bulls trampling their opposition 28-10.

Police have launched an investigation and urge anyone with footage of the fights to contact Bankstown Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Last weekend, a teenage boy charged with assaulting an opposition player during a junior soccer match was banned from his club after the ugly incident that left his alleged victim in hospital.

NSW Police charged the 17-year-old Blue Mountains FC player with assault occasioning actual bodily harm after he allegedly punched a 16-year-old Emu Plains FC player during an under 17s match at Glenbrook last Sunday morning.

In a separate and unrelated incident last weekend, two western Sydney soccer clubs were investigated after video emerged of players throwing punches and pushing each other during a frantic brawl.
