A man who allegedly helped his brother following the gangland execution of Belmore man Rami Iskander has been charged over the fatal shooting.

Iskander, 23, the nephew of allegedly murdered underworld heavyweight Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad, was gunned down on the driveway of the home he shared with his heavily pregnant wife and toddler as he arrived home about 4am on May 14 this year.

Rami Iskander (left) was shot dead in Belmore in the early hours of May 14. He was the nephew of Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad, who was killed in a shooting just weeks earlier.

“Shortly after, there were vehicle fires at Croydon Park and Bexley North,” State Crime Command director Detective Chief Superintendent Darren Bennett said at the time.

On Thursday, investigators picked up Lee Lambroglou, 29, on York Street in the Sydney CBD and took him to Day Street police station where he was charged with accessory after the fact of murder and concealing a serious indictable offence.

Court documents seen by the Herald on Thursday show that detectives allege Lee Lambroglou “knowing Vincent Lambroglou to have committed a serious indictable offence ... did receive, harbour, maintain and assist Vincent Lambroglou”.

In a statement on Thursday, police said they “will allege in court that the man provided direct assistance to persons involved in the incident following the alleged murder of Mr Iskander”.

Vincent has been charged with being an accessory before and after the fact to murder, participating in a criminal group and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime. Maria is facing one count of dealing with the proceeds of crime and one of participating in a criminal group. Both remain before the courts.

Iskander was shot just four days after the Sydney underworld was shocked by the “meticulous assassination” of his uncle as Ahmad left a Ramadan celebration at a home in Greenacre.

Three people have been charged over their alleged roles in Ahmed’s death, and remain before the courts.

Thursday’s arrest is the second development in a week for detectives investigating the spate of fatal shootings that have plagued Sydney over the past two years.

On Wednesday, police charged 20-year-old Suliman Hamza with his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Guildford father and son Salim and Toufik Hamze in October 2021.
