A P-plater driver has died following a two-vehicle crash in the Blue Mountains on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway near Pritchard Street, Wentworth Falls, following reports a truck and car had collided just after 2am.
Nine News reported the male P-plater had veered onto the wrong side of the road.
The 24-year-old, who has not been formally identified, died at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Video footage of the crash scene shows heavy fog and a wet road.
A neighbour told Nine News: “It was like an explosion. It makes you a bit uneasy, this is a pretty bad stretch for trucks.”
Chief police inspector Peter Scheinflug said: “He’s [the truck driver] sitting up there watching it unfold in front of him and he can’t do anything about it.”
The incident caused heavy traffic in the area from 7.30am to 10.30am.
A report will be prepared for the NSW Coroner.
