A kidnapped man escaped from his captor after breaking free from the boot of a car in Sydney's north on Thursday night.
The 20-year-old man was waiting outside a residence on High Street, Maitland, at 11.00pm when a 27-year-old allegedly assaulted him and forced him into the boot of a car.
The 27-year-old allegedly drove to Rutherford but the kidnapped man managed to jump out of the boot while the car was still moving.
He ran to a nearby home and contacted the police. He suffered minor injuries.
At 4.15am on Friday, police arrested the 27-year-old and charged him with kidnapping and assault. He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Maitland Local Court on April 9.
Police will allege this was a domestic incident and investigations will continue.
