The devastated father of a five-year-old boy who was fatally hit by a truck in Sydney's south-west on Friday night has bravely spoken out about the tragedy.
Doug Sproule, 38, was parking his vehicle in a trucking transport yard in Picton when he accidentally ran over his son, Harrison.
Mr Sproule told Nine News his son was a "very happy, little, mischievous" boy.
"He was very outdoors, loved his horse, loved his brothers and sister," he said. "He's always loved camping".
He spoke out in the hope that his story will prevent similar accidents happening to anyone else.
Police and paramedics arrived at the scene about 6pm. Harrison was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Mr Sproule, who was not injured, was taken to the same hospital for mandatory testing.
He said he had no idea his son was behind his truck.
"He used to come with me a lot in the truck," he said. "He's been to Darwin, Perth, north WA, all the usual interestate places, he was extremely well travelled."
"He loved it. He's spent years in the truck. He was amazing".
