Harriet Wran pleads guilty to drugs charge

By Carrie Fellner

Harriet Wran, the daughter of former NSW premier Neville Wran, has pleaded guilty to possessing the drug ice, less than three years after she was released from prison.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing drugs, goods in custody and not displaying P-plates with a court registrar early on Wednesday, before she was due to appear before a magistrate at Wyong Local Court.

Wran was pulled over by police at a service station at North Wyong just after 1.30am on February 27.

A male passenger fled as officers approached the car and is yet to be found.

According to court documents, officers found 0.96 grams of crystal methamphetamine – or ice – inside the car, as well as 32 stolen items including six laptops, five credit and debit cards, three mobile phones, an iPad and a pocket watch.

Unopened mail, a Medicare card and academic transcripts belonging to other people – believed to have been unlawfully obtained – were also found.

Registrar Steve Mannall continued Wran's bail on Wednesday, on condition she live at the family's farm at Ravensdale and complies with an 8pm-to-6am curfew unless in the company of her mother.

Bail documents describe Wran as "a high-profile community member".

She had been living with her mother, Jill Hickson Wran, for the past three months and receiving $800 a fortnight from a family trust fund.

"The offences are not in the high scale of seriousness, but they may lead to other more serious offences," the bail document states.

The prosecution described its case as strong and will rely on the property seized at the time.

"Some of this property has been proved to have come from various break-and-enters recently," the bail document reads. "Police do not believe that the accused will receive a custodial sentence if convicted of these offences."

Wran was released from jail in September 2016 after serving more than two years over her role in the robbery and murder of a Sydney drug dealer in August 2014.

She was given a maximum four-year term for being an accessory to the murder, robbery in company and harbouring her killer boyfriend afterwards.

When her parole period expired last August she appeared to be on the path to recovery, enrolling in an agribusiness degree and posting photos to social media of her "new life" on the family farm.

Wran – dressed in a plain green shirt and jeans – wasn't accompanied by family at court on Wednesday, leaving with her lawyer Alexander Angel-Graham.

Asked by reporters if it was a tough time, she said: "Yeah it is."

Wran is due back at Wyong Court on May 15.
