Ben Zygier born in Melbourne.
1993
Graduates from Bialik College, Hawthorn.
1994
Begins a law degree at Monash University.
1995
Moves to Israel, lives at Kibbutz Gazit, completes military service.
1998
Zygier returns to Australia to complete law degree.
2002
Finishes article clerkship at Melbourne office of law firm Deacons.
2003
Takes leave of absence from Deacons and moves to Tel Aviv. Takes a trainee position with law firm Herzog, Fox and Neeman.
2004
Zygier is accepted into the Israeli intelligence organisation Mossad and begins an intensive, year-long training program.
2005
Is assigned by Mossad to undertake activities in Europe, to try to cultivate relationships with European companies doing business with Iran and Syria.
2007
Reassigned to Mossad headquarters in Tel Aviv, where he is given a desk job in the intelligence analysis section called Tsomet.
2008
At some point in the second half of the year, Zygier goes to eastern Europe to meet a Hezbollah official he hopes to turn into a double agent.
Study leave request approved and he enrols in a masters of management degree at Monash University.
2009
Moves back to Melbourne to study.
May 16: Ziad al-Homsi, aka The Indian, a Lebanese spy working for Mossad, is arrested. Other arrests follow, including another Mossad operative, Mustafa Ali Awadeh, aka Zuzi.
October: Fairfax Media is given names of three dual Australian-Israeli citizens believed to be working for Mossad. One is Ben Zygier.
December: Fairfax Media first makes contact with Zygier. He denies any association with Israeli intelligence.
2010
January: Zygier is called back to Israel for his own protection after Mossad hears that Hezbollah knows the identity of a Mossad agent living in Australia.
January 29: Zygier is arrested by the internal security agency Shin Bet and placed in the infamous Wing 15 inside Ayalon prison at Ramla near Tel Aviv.
December 15: Zygier is found dead in his cell by prison guards.
