Inner West Council, spanning from Balmain to Tempe, has five wards, and voters have the responsibility of getting 15 councillors to represent them.
Led by Labor mayor Darcy Byrne, the council is an interesting battleground between Labor and the Greens: Labor holds eight seats on the council while the Greens have five. There are two independents.
The Sydney Morning Herald sent questions to each of the 51 candidates up for election at Inner West Council about why they are running and what they want to accomplish if they are elected. Of those, 12 responded.
Their responses have been lightly edited for clarity.
