Tony Dodemaide: Medal of the Order of Australia
By Jon Pierik
Tony Dodemaide, a former Victorian and Australian cricketer and now national selector, has received the Medal of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours.
The fast-bowling allrounder made his international debut in 1987 and played in 10 Tests and 24 one day internationals.
After his playing career ended, Dodemaide embarked on what became a long career in sports administration.
He was manager of corporate marketing at the Melbourne Cricket Club, then had five years as the head of cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club.
Upon returning to Australia, he became the Western Australian Cricket Association chief executive, then shifted to Cricket Victoria to take on the same role.
After a stint in hockey, this summer he joined Cricket Australia’s panel of selectors for the men’s teams.
