NSW Police have confirmed the key arterial road servicing the south coast, where tens of thousands of holidaymakers and locals are trapped by fires, is closed due to fallen trees and fire damage and may not reopen tomorrow.
The Princes Highway is closed between South Nowra and Milton, Police said on social media.
"If deemed safe to do so, arborists will work in the area tomorrow in an effort to make the area safe and open the road, however this work is expected to take considerable time," Police said.
"There are also other areas of the Princes Highway closed and you should check with live traffic.nsw for updates."
Other major roads are also closed across the state, including the Pacific Highway between Blue Haven and Lake Haven. The Snowy Mountains Highway between Tumut Plains Road and Adaminaby is also blocked off as is Cooma Road between Braidwood and Cooma.
The Kings Highway connecting Canberra and the south coast, which has been out of operation for days, remains shut.
