After Warner departed cheaply, Bancroft and Khawaja were subjected to an absorbing examination by Broad, Archer and Woakes but managed to get through to stumps unscathed with Australia 1/30. Bancroft is on five from 36 balls while Khawaja returns tomorrow with 10 runs to his name.
The over rate was a bit of a concern today. Even though there was an extra hour of play, only 93 overs were completed, which is three more than a normal six-hour day but five short of the number teams were supposed to get through as a result of yesterday's wash-out.
Australia trail England by 228 runs and will feel their decision to bowl first was justified.
Day two is going to be a massive day for both sides.
