November 2014: Re-elected in Brunswick. Later appointed to cabinet with emergency services, consumer affairs, gaming and liquor regulation portfolios.
Late 2015: United Firefighters Union (UFU) members protest at public events with Ms Garrett amid a dispute over a workplace deal.
June 2016: Quits as minister, moves to the backbench as dispute deepens.
August 2016: Reveals she'll lodge a bullying complaint against UFU boss Peter Marshall. Alleges he threatened to put an axe through her head. Mr Marshall denies the claim.
August 2016: A 52-year-old woman is arrested for allegedly assaulting Ms Garrett on the street in Carlton.
November 2016: Reveals breast cancer diagnosis.
March 2017: Returns to Parliament.
September 2017: Announces she won't recontest Brunswick in 2018; wants a switch to upper house.
November 2017: First bid for upper house seat thwarted by factional rivals.
February 2018: Reveals she is considering a run for role of lord mayor of Melbourne but later steps away.
July 2018: Internal deal wrapped up for Ms Garrett to take upper house spot of Eastern Victoria.
