A week after Teddy first noticed the loose downpipe, he and Alana were awakened by its erratic banging in a storm.
“I’ll fix it tomorrow,” he said.
He would have, too, but the day got away from him.
As the months elapsed, he thought about it often – particularly when it taunted him on windy nights – but still it remained unsecured.
A year later, he saw Alana extending the ladder beneath the downpipe.

He nudged her out of the way. “I said I’d do it, and I will,” he huffed.
He fixed it – in eight minutes flat.
