A trip up the career ladder

On returning home for an imminent Zoom job interview, Daniel discovered he’d forgotten his keys.

Finding the windows locked, he visualised the open inner courtyard doors. On retrieving the ladder, he began climbing. On the second last rung, the ladder went sideways.

As he scrambled atop the roof, he heard it crash to the ground. Heart galloping, he traversed red tiles until he could see into the courtyard.

Without the ladder, the ground looked forbiddingly distant. With time running out, he lowered himself until he was dangling above the drop.

It was then he decided he didn’t want the job.
