Model Cheyenne Tozzi on her three wardrobe essentials
By Georgie Gordon
How would you describe your style? Bohemian and beachy.
What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe? A silk Hermès scarf that was my mother’s.
And the most recent addition? An orange, high-waisted, full-length skirt I found at a market stall in Spain.
What are three essential items in your wardrobe? My black Jets high-neck one-piece bathing suit – I can wear it with a little pair of shorts or pants and go “from beach to bar”, as they say. Also jeans – I like Zara and Ksubi – and white sneakers.
What’s your favourite fashion era? I loved that time when music videos were a thing, like all J Lo’s videos in the 2000s – it wasn’t just the music, it was the fashion. I remember going to New York and wanting to wear exactly what she wore, and my big hoop earrings getting stuck to my face in the snow.
What would you wear …
… on a first date? A black Skims slip dress with Valentino spiky flats.
… on a plane? A matching cashmere set and big Hermès scarf that’s almost like a blanket. Plus, jeans, a T-shirt and Superga sneakers for when I land.
… on the red carpet? Alex Perry always nails it for me. Also, Italian designer Francesco Scognamiglio makes amazing pieces; he did a dress for Beyoncé that was insane.
Who’s your favourite designer? I love Zac Posen.
What’s your fragrance of choice? I wear Comptoir Sud Pacifique scents – they smell like a holiday.
Any go-to jewellery? A Rolex “Daytona” watch and Cartier “Panthère” bracelets mixed with all the shell bangles and beaded bracelets that my daughter and I collect.
Can you remember a favourite outfit from when you were a child? Mum made amazing matching outfits – tulle dresses, cow-print swimming costumes – for my sister Tahyna and me. She’d even rework our school uniforms and sew in tutus under the skirts.
What was your first fashion moment? When Zac Posen designed those dresses for me for the finale of The Face in 2014. That was beautiful; he really knows how to make a girl feel like a princess.
And your worst fashion mistake? I remember wearing low-rise pink and white jeans to the MTV Awards in Sydney back in the day and thinking it was so cool. And the ponytail with the two pieces of hair hanging down at the front. It was just wrong.
Is there anything you would never wear? Crocs.
What’s at the top of your wish list? There’s a New York City-based label, Suzie Kondi, that does beautiful matching velour tracksuits – not like the old-school ones, they’re really cute – and jumpsuits. I have the black and the cream and I want all the other colours.
Is there a current trend you like? I love how everyone’s going all in and expressing themselves every which way. There’s no right or wrong any more, as long you wear it with all your power.
What shoes do you wear most often? White Superga sneakers.
What do you sleep in? A big T-shirt or a boyfriend shirt. And socks if it’s cold.
Who’s your favourite fashion icon? Elle Macpherson and Cindy Crawford when it comes to overall style. And I love the way Johnny Depp dresses.
What do you wear on a typical weekday? It changes every day: jeans and a white shirt, some rainbow crochet number, my Jets cossies at the beach or The Upside yoga gear. Being a mum, I might even be dressed up as a mermaid in a ridiculous sparkly dress and jumping into the pool.
And what’s your favourite casual Sunday look? Chilling in ripped denim shorts and a little bohemian top.
