Skin specialist Douglas Pereira’s go-to body washes
Each fortnight, Stephanie Darling gets inside the head of an industry expert or media personality. This week, she talks Douglas Pereira. The skin specialist has been treating skin with his hands and bespoke skincare range for over 25 years. He reveals some of his beauty secrets.
What I’m loving right now Having a soak in the bath or taking a long shower, one of the most relaxing of self-care rituals. I usually have four to six body washes on the go. Favourites include Diptyque Tam Dao Shower Body Balm (mecca.com.au, $69) and Frama’s Apothecary Body Wash (fwrd.com, $81).
Beauty icon My late grandmother, Theresa Stephanie, was a vision of perfection – never a hair out of place. She was my introduction to the world of beauty, skincare and grooming.
Top skincare tip Only use skincare products that promote a healthy skin barrier and contain active ingredients your skin doesn’t react to. Build up usage of active ingredients slowly.
The rule I live by Create time each day to reflect on your day, your goals, your dreams.
Favourite colour I love a palette in tones of grey, black, white and neutrals.
Must-have beauty product Can I have two, please? Douglas Pereira Skin Health Cera Forte Restore Serum ($185, dpskinhealth.com) keeps my skin feeling healthy. I also love the new Aesop Eidesis Eau de Parfum (aesop.com, $220).
I never leave home without Applying SPF50+ to my face.
Trend: Luxe Lips
It’s time for a seasonal lipstick revamp and there’s no better shade to start with than an easy-to-apply warm nude. These new formulas not only deposit a delicious swipe of wearable colour but hydrate lips, too.

We pretty much love everything Aesop does and this new mouthwash (aesop.com, $25) is no exception. With cloves, anise, spearmint leaf and zero alcohol, a swish of this is all you need for fresh breath.
Ask Steph
How do I prevent my skin pigmentation from worsening during summer?
One: protect skin year-round by applying an SPF50+.
Two: exfoliate to increase cell turnover.
Three: inhibit melanin production with skin-brightening products like SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic (skinceuticals.com.au, $233).
