Jessica Alba gave this beauty editor a tip and she’s never forgotten it
Sunday Life beauty editor Stephanie Darling gets inside the head of an industry expert or media personality. Leigh Campbell, 40, is the host of the podcast You Beauty and co-owner of Brillo Beauty, a body-care range for pregnancy and postpartum.
What are you loving right now? A slicked-back bun. Life is busy, mornings are frantic, but using a hair mask to slick my hair back into a tight, smooth bun looks timeless and conditions my hair at the same time.
What is your favourite fragrance? Juliette Has a Gun, Not a Perfume, $209 from Adore Beauty. It’s a floral, woody musk and I’ve lost count of how many people have stopped me to ask what it is.
Who do you look up to? My Brillo Beauty business partner, Tegan Natoli. She owns Bump Day Spa in Cronulla, Sydney. She’s very clever, the perfect person to go into business with.
What’s the rule you live by? “Fail to prepare? Prepare to fail.”
Top beauty tips? Cream textures! As I age, I find creams and liquids so much more flattering than powders. American actress Jessica Alba gave me that tip and I’ve used it ever since.
Do you have a favourite exercise routine? I’m a Pilates girl, mostly because I’m locked into a class and can’t leave.
Who’s your “person” for …
… hair? Barney Martin in Surry Hills.
… skin? For injectables I go to The Manse Clinic in Paddington.
… facials? Carina at Belaméres in Double Bay.
… brows? Kristin Fisher Eyebrows in Double Bay. I get them done every two weeks.
Who do you follow on Instagram? Eva Chen. I love her style and really enjoy how she juggles her career with being a mum.
What is the last beauty product you bought? Medik8 Crystal Retinal 6, $121.
What is your favourite colour? Green. There’s no shade of green you can’t make work.
Do you have a go-to lip colour? I recently had a lip-blushing procedure, so my lips are now very faintly tattooed and I only need lip balm.
What beauty products are in your bag right now? Brillo Beauty The Balm, blotting paper for my combination skin, Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles, $21.
Ask Steph
What is your favourite beauty look from the recent couture shows?
I love looks that can go from runway to reality – and this season it was Alexis Mabille with swirls of colour that went from the lids to brows and temples, then swept down onto the cheeks. Try Nars Single Eyeshadow in Persia, from Mecca, $28.
