the government introduced its changes to citizenship into Parliament;
the government also needed to do some emergency legislating after a loophole in offshore processing legislation was discovered;
the opposition agreed to help the government out on that front;
the Senate has been very busy passing legislation to cut the renewable energy target, agreeing to an inquiry into payments to people smugglers and knocking back increased advertising on the SBS; and
Opposition leader Bill Shorten has been caught out over his role in the removal of former prime minister Julia Gillard.

"We will vote for this bill because people's safety comes first," Mr Shorten says.
"We will vote for this bill because we are guided by our compassion."

Opposition leader Bill Shorten is speaking on the government's funding amendment.
He is not wasting the opportunity to give the government a lecture on manners.
"The very people you attack are the people you need to turn to," Mr Shorten says.
He is also unhappy at the lateness of the request. Or that the request needed to be made at all.

Immigration Minister Peter Dutton is introducing into the House of Representatives the necessary paperwork to make sure the Commonwealth can fund offshore processing centres.
The government wants this through ASAP.
Since it has the opposition's support this shouldn't be a problem.
