‘Endometriosis? It’s made up’: Sheargold comments resurface
The day after Marty Sheargold said he would rather “hammer a nail through the head of my penis” than watch women’s soccer, the comedian and presenter claimed endometriosis was “made up”.
The Triple M host, 53, was axed by the broadcaster on Wednesday evening following his remarks about the Matildas and women’s sport, which he made on Monday morning.

On Tuesday, before the sport comments were widely reported, Sheargold was still presenting the Drive show on Triple M. One hour and 14 minutes into the program, he discussed his sore back and how a heat pack was helping relieve the pain.
“I’ve done me back. It’s no secret over the last couple of days. I can’t hide it any more,” he told his co-hosts and listeners.
“I’ve got a heat pack behind my back, which is very comforting and thank you to [producer] Whitney for bringing her period heat pack here because, God, don’t ladies carry on. Jesus Christ, there is no end of it. Honestly, endometriosis, and this is controversial ...”
A co-host urges him not to continue with the sentence but Sheargold goes ahead, saying: “No, I’m going to say it. It’s controversial. It’s made up”.
Endometriosis affects nearly 1 million Australians and occurs when tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus. It can cause pain, heavy periods and infertility.
Sheargold “mutually parted ways” with Triple M on Wednesday afternoon, according to a statement from the broadcaster. He was absent from his regular radio slot.
“Southern Cross Austereo takes its responsibility to listeners, shareholders and clients seriously and its programming should align with the standards and expectations of its audience,” SCA’s chief content officer, Dave Cameron, said in a statement.

In a segment discussing the Matildas’ performances at the SheBelieves Cup in the United States, Sheargold, who was joined by co-hosts Troy Ellis and Will Ralston, said: “You know what they remind me of? Year 10 girls. All the infighting and all the friendship issues and ‘the coach hates me’ and ‘I hate bloody training’ and ‘Michelle’s being a bitch’.
“Now I’m sorry to undermine the whole sport, but that’s what I think of it so you can stick it up your arse.”
Sheargold has since issued an apology for his remarks regarding the Matildas.
“Any comedy including mine can miss the mark sometimes, and I can see why people may have taken offence at my comments regarding the Matildas,” Sheargold said. “I sincerely apologise.”
Following the controversial comments, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) added a portal on their website specifically catering to listeners looking to lodge a complaint.
“If you wish to complain about Triple M’s Marty Sheargold Show on 24 February 2025, it should first be made to the broadcaster. Complaints can be lodged via the Triple M website,” reads the addition.
Sheargold also stars in the ABC’s hit comedy Fisk, created by fellow comedian Kitty Flanagan. Flanagan has declined to comment.
ACMA and Sheargold have both been approached for comment.
