Mercure Hotel calls Rouse Hill home
AccorHotels is set to open its latest Mercure Hotel in Sydney's Hills District in a partnership with developer Lewis Land.
It is one of many hotels that are being developed across Sydney in a market said to be still under-supplied.
According to the half yearly market update last week, hosted by peak accommodation body Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) for the first time in four years, Sydney is seeing substantial new hotel supply coming online.
Its biggest rival, Melbourne is also up 11 per cent in overnight trips and looking at 13.9 per cent growth in new rooms for 2020.
TAA NSW acting chief executive Dr Adele Lausberg said it is "encouraging to hear that nationally, occupancy levels are sitting around 76 per cent and while these are expected to retreat slightly in 2020 with the new supply coming into the market, they are expected to return to the current level over the next three years".
Currently under construction, Mercure Sydney Rouse Hill is being developed alongside The Fiddler Hotel, which underwent a major redevelopment in 2010.
Accor chief operating officer Pacific, Simon McGrath said the development is a strategic and welcome addition to the Group and will positively contribute to the economic growth of Sydney’s North West.
"Development in Sydney’s west is gaining momentum and the opening of a new international-quality mid-scale hotel will positively contribute to the economic and tourism growth of the area through job creation and services," Mr McGrath said.
Designed by Architect Mostaghim & Associates, Mercure Sydney Rouse Hill will house 78 guest rooms, including 67 standard, seven family and four disability rooms, spread across the four-storey hotel.
Expected to open in July 2019, Mercure Sydney Rouse Hill will also house a fitness centre and swimming pool, new conferencing and events spaces, while dining venues will be provided to hotel guests through The Fiddler’s existing entertainment complex.
