A Melbourne DJ who died after falling from a balcony in Bali has been remembered for her happy-go-lucky attitude and compassion.

Courtney Mills, a 37-year-old from Frankston, was found critically injured after an accident in Kuta in the early hours of last Friday, her sister said on social media.

Mills underwent multiple surgeries but died in hospital on Sunday.

“We can’t begin to imagine a world without your vibrance [and] spark,” sister Kiani Mills said on Facebook. “We know you have found peace, we know you have found happiness, but we will miss you every single day.”

Mills was a popular DJ in nightclubs and had 150,000 followers on Instagram. She also worked as a model on OnlyFans, an online subscription platform proliferated with adult content.

Her mother, Diane Mayne, told Nine News her daughter was “beautiful, big-hearted, happy-go-lucky [and] adventurous”.

On Tuesday afternoon, the family released a statement on social media, which said they were in Bali and in the process of trying to bring Mills’ body home.

“This has by far been the hardest and most unexpected loss and heartbreak we have ever had to navigate, with each step unknown, facing hurdles and challenges, being in a foreign country and trying not to fall apart,” the statement said.

“We would do anything to have you back, Court, and mark this all down to a horrible nightmare.

“It feels so surreal and so unbelievable … there really are no words that will ever be able to explain or describe the loss of a loved one.”

Courtney’s father, Andrew Mills, also paid tribute to his daughter on social media, and wrote: “R.I.P. my beautiful daughter. Love you always.”

Brandon Mangion, a prominent DJ known as Teddy Cream who was friends with Mills, said her last message to him said, “I’m here for you.”

“Reading that [news] yesterday just broke my heart,” he said.

Denpasar Police spokesman Ketut Sukadi confirmed Mills fell from a balcony in the early hours of Friday morning, but he said the incident was not reported to local police at the time.

“We do not have the chronology of what occurred yet, as the incident was never reported to the police,” he said.

“We are expecting the family and the hotel representative to visit Kuta police station today to confirm that there is no criminal aspect to the incident. I am yet to receive a report if they have made it to Kuta police.”

Kuta Police Chief Agus Riwayanto Diputra said Mills had been drinking in the hours before her fall and hotel staff took her to her room about midnight on Thursday. She was found about an hour later lying beside the hotel’s pool.

“We suspect there was trauma from her fall,” Diputra said.

“She was later taken to the hospital where she died last Sunday. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the hotel had cleaned up the room.”

Diputra said police had interviewed staff and guests at the hotel.

He said Mills had been staying at the hotel with her dog.

“We were informed that by the time she died [on Sunday], her family was by her side,” he said.

Mills’ talent agency, That Sound Agency, said on social media that she brought joy, energy, and passion everywhere she went.

“Courtney Mills was not just a brilliant DJ,” the post said, “she was the heartbeat of every party, a vibrant spirit who connected us all.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed it was providing consular help to the family of an Australian who died in Bali.

“We send our deepest condolences to the family at this difficult time.”
