Kyrgios and Djokovic win first doubles match

Game, set and match.

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios have won their first doubles match together at the Brisbane International, defeating Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), in just under two hours.

The crowd favourites dominated the match tiebreak, with Kyrgios’ serve particularly crucial, and the weapon that got the job donw in the end after giving up two match points earlier.

Despite a few magical moments from Djokovic, Kyrgios was actually the dominant of the pair and looked fit and fiery on his return to the court.

Match tiebreak to decide Djokovic and Kyrgios doubles match

We’re going to a match tiebreak in Brisbane after Erler and Mies dominated in the second set tiebreak.

Not as tight from Djokovic and Kyrgios at the end of that set, but the European duo did raise their level to take it to a decider.

A match tiebreak means first to 10 will win tonight.

Ruud wins in two sets to draw Norway 1-1 with Poland

That’s game, set and match in Sydney, where Casper Ruud has dominated the second set and defeated Hubert Hurkacz 7-5, 6-2 in 1 hour and 23 minutes.

A dominant victory for Ruud who has drawn Norway 1-1 with Poland in this group B tie.

Next up is the mixed doubles where Hurkacz is down to play again alongside Iga Swiatek, while Ruud is also listed as playing with Ulrikke Eikeri.

Kyrgios and Djokovic work the crowd

Kyrgios and Djokovic are the most popular people in Brisbane right now, but you can see how their opponents on the other side of the net might find them quite loathsome.

They’ve got the crowd eating out of their palms, and they’re just having a good time, while Erler and and Mies are trying to survive and take this to a deciding set.

They’re doing a pretty good job of it, but they’re certainly not getting the same amount of love from the Brisbane crowd when they nail a cross-court volley or a shot down the line.

Watch: Vintage Djokovic in action on court

Norway’s chances still alive as Ruud takes the first set

In a tight opening set, Ruud broke Hurkacz’s serve at the last opportunity to win 7-5, just as a tiebreak seemed inevitable.

Up until the final game, the pair were trading service games comfortably, but entertaining the energetic crowd along the way.

One particularly dynamic rally featured a tweener and multiple smashes, but none of that mattered when Ruud suddenly had three break points on Hurkacz’s serve, only needing two to lock in the set.

Djokovic and Kyrgios take the first set

Clinical. Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios take the first set 6-4 in 34 minutes.

That last game was vintage Djokovic, with an impressive round the net shot, and a beautiful lob over the top to bring up set point on their opponents serve.

Kyrgios sealed the set for the pair with a crazily accurate forehand down the line.

They’re certainly loving this, Kyrgios is working the crowd.
