Kerr hat-trick fires Chelsea to victory in League Cup final
Australian striker Sam Kerr scored a hat-trick as Chelsea thrashed Bristol City 6-0 to win the Continental Cup at Vicarage Road in London, recording the biggest margin of victory in a Women’s League Cup final.
Kerr grabbed the opening two goals inside the first 10 minutes of the final – both assisted by Fran Kirby, before the England forward’s brace put Chelsea 4-0 ahead at the break.
Kerr completed her treble in the 48th minute before Guro Reiten – again set up by Kirby – rounded off the rout for the Women’s Super League leaders.
“We were unbelievable for 60 minutes, the pace, intensity and movement,” Chelsea manager Emma Hayes told BT Sport. “It was a great team performance across the board. Fran Kirby and Sam Kerr were unbelievable.”
The Blues, however, suffered a setback when Norway defender Maren Mjelde picked up a serious knee injury in the second half.

“Maren is a huge person in our dressing room, she is the person everybody looks up to. I hope she is OK. I know it’s a bad one. I am devastated,” Hayes said.
The win gave Hayes her eighth major trophy as manager. The hat-trick also took Kerr’s goal tally to 16 across all competitions. Her first goal came after just 90 seconds.
