The France v England quarter-final clash looms as “match of the tournament” stuff. Two teams blessed with great attacking players, and, of course, a rather spicy history.
England through to quarter-finals
The first 30 minutes weren’t exactly smooth sailing, but England are through to the last eight of the World Cup. Once they scored their first goal it was as though a switch was flicked. From that point on England looked great. France are in for a fight. England win 3-0
Stoppage time
We’re two minutes into an additional four minutes and both teams look as though they want this to end. Senegal should go home proud of their achievements while England are now where they always thought they would be. England 3-0
Football royalty is standing up
The Netherlands. Argentina. France. England. The first four Round of 16 matches have gone to script following a group stage that was packed with shock results. To have Netherlands v Argentina and France v England locked in as quarter-finals is great news for purists.
Bellingham exits
78th minute: The young man who played a major role in getting England going has seen his last action. Jude Bellingham recorded an assist for England’s first goal before doing all the hard work for their second. France will need to devise a way to limit his effectiveness. John Stones has also been replaced for England, with Mason Mount and Eric Dier being introduced. England 3-0
