Triple threat for ex-jockey Parker at Moruya meeting

By John Schell

Former jockey turned trainer Lauri Parker will head to Moruya on Sunday with three strong chances lining up.

Parker, who is based at Warwick Farm, will have Missy No Nay in the Built By Thompson Class 1 Handicap (1010m) and Capicella in the Harcourts Batemans Bay Christmas Cup Benchmark 58 Handicap (1425m) with jockey Jean Van Overmeire riding each of them.

Missy No Nay has only been to Moruya once and that resulted in a Super Maiden win in April of this year when ridden by Kayla Nisbet. Parker has since given Missy No Nay four runs back from a spell with Van Overmeire being in the saddle in the past three of them. She’s been placed at Gundagai and Canberra at her last two starts.

Capicella has had two starts back from a spell and has finished ninth and eighth at Wyong and Newcastle respectively. Capicella is a winner of one of her 10 starts and has had a further two minor placings.

Parker will round out the day at Moruya when jockey Louise Day partners Ludovica in the Camerons Timber And Hardware Class 1 Handicap (1300m).

Ludovica was a Super Maiden winner at Wagga in May and was then spelled. She’s had three starts back from a spell and while she hasn’t figured in those events at Wagga and Kembla Grange, she hasn’t been beaten too far in any of them.

Meanwhile, jockey Nick Heywood looks set for a big day at Moruya, starting with the ride on the Danny Williams-trained favourite King Taurus in the Stitching Sisters Narooma Country Boosted Maiden Plate (1300m).

King Taurus was originally trained in Queensland by Chris Munce, and has had two starts since joining the Williams stable and finished second in each of them.

Heywood will ride the Matthew Dale-trained Better Sun when it lines up against Missy No Nay, while he’s on Airliner for Terry Robinson when it takes on Ludovica.

His other two rides are Marks Icon in the Mogo Brew Crew Country Boosted Class 2 Handicap (1650m) and Decaulette in the Onecall Steel And Form Super Maiden Plate (1650m).
