Race-by-race preview and tips for Tuesday meeting at Goulburn
By John Schell
(Selections based on a soft track)
Race 1
2. Cable Express is a handy performer that has three wins and as many placings from eight starts. He was a winner in Highway company at Randwick two starts ago and then ran second in another Highway at Newcastle in November. He’s been freshened for this and finished second in a recent Hawkesbury trial in preparation. He should be primed to make a winning return to racing. 1. Lang Park has been racing well and finished second at Cowra at his latest start. He should be in the thick of things again here if anywhere near his best. 3. Future Fund is a handy performer that has three wins and two seconds to his name from 10 starts and is a winner of his latest two starts at Albury. He’s fresh for this and looked good in a recent trial. 5. Tokyo Ice won last time out at Moruya and only needs to run up to that effort in order to be a leading contender again here.

Yeah Mate was well in the market on debut at Corowa when on debut and is fresh for this. Expect an improvement. 4. Manwari beat home Ischyros last time out and must be respected here. 2. Aegipan has been paced in each of his latest two starts either side of a spell and can figure again with a repeat of those efforts.

Race 3
9. Atelier was on debut at Orange and started at big odds when scoring a win in good fashion. This is tougher, but she shows the talent to go on with the job. 3. Miss Ghent has been racing well of late with a fourth and a third in her two most recent starts in Highway grade at Randwick. She has the benefit of an apprentice claim here which should assist her chances. 2. Shadow Express wasn’t beaten far at Nowra last time out and has claims on his best form, while 1. More Mischief has been thereabouts of late.

9. Jackpot Star debuted with an impressive win at Wagga as favourite and that came on the back of a solid trial. He led throughout in the first start win and has the advantage of gate one in this. Expect him to take up a prominent position and take a power of beating again. 10. Xcessive Force looked good winning on debut at this track in December and she’s had a tick-over trial leading into this second start. She’s drawn awkwardly here but has the talent to overcome that. 4. Pins And Needles resumed at Kembla Grange earlier in the month and she should be improved by that hitout. She has a solid record and can get into the placings. 1. Luconi was a Scone winner on debut then ran well in three subsequent starts before being spelled.
