Baker and Morgan team up for twin Goulburn assault

By John Schell

Doncaster Mile-winning trainer Bjorn Baker combines with The Galaxy winning jockey Ashley Morgan when two leading contenders go around at Goulburn on Tuesday.

Baker, who prepared Stefi Magnetica to win the Doncaster at the weekend as well as having Overpass finish second in the TJ Smith Stakes, has Stormy Reign set to run in the Goulburn Mazda & Isuzu Ute Maiden Plate (1000m) and Jamacri lining up in the MJ Dale Racing Class 1 & Maiden Plate (1600m).

Morgan, who was successful on The TAB Everest bound Private Harry in The Galaxy on Golden
Slipper day, will be aboard the pair of Baker runners.

“Stormy Reign is a two-year-old filly taking on the older horses, but she’s shown enough in her two
starts to suggest it’s a race that will suit her,” Baker said.

“She finished fourth in good company on debut at Warwick Farm last October and had a couple of
trials before she resumed with a fifth at Scone when beaten just over three lengths.

“Ashley was on in the trials and the run at Scone, so he knows her well now.”

Jamacri, which has a win and two placings to her name from five starts, has a horror barrier to contend with in her event.

“She won really well at Port Macquarie when she resumed back in January,” Baker said.

“She followed that up with a second at Nowra when she battled on well enough when up in grade. Her latest run was at Orange, and she ran ninth there as favourite.

“She drops a little in weight at Goulburn and if she can get any luck at all from an outside gate then
she should be in the finish.”

Randwick trainer John Thompson will also take two chances to Goulburn, with Nami’s Jewel lining up in the same event as Stormy Reign, and Deep Emotion starting in the Goulburn Carpet Court Maiden Handicap (1200m).

Louis Beuzelin will ride Nami’s Jewel, while Alysha Collett is on Deep Emotion. Collett will also partner Minnehaha Falls in the final event of the day.
