Trent Robinson blasts officials after Roosters loss as Daly Cherry-Evans goes for scans

Frustrated Roosters coach Trent Robinson says he had no doubt that Latrell Mitchell should have been awarded a match winning try as Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans was rushed for scans on his injured ankle.

The Roosters were denied a match winning try to Mitchell, after Mitchell Aubusson was ruled to have been offside from a second last play kick by Mitchell on Saturday night. The call was made by referee Grant Atkins, with the NRL bunker not over-ruling.

"It was a try," Robinson said. "It was pretty obvious. It was a bad call from the ref and a bad call from the bunker. He was onside. We could all see it from the angle.

"We could all see he was behind. What are you going to draw a line on the screen?

"It was pretty obvious just make the call. They got it wrong.

"They do rule onside and offside on kick and kick chases. I don't have a problem with that. It was pretty commonsense the way their feet were."

Meanwhile, Cherry-Evans will have scans on his ankle with coach Trent Barrett saying the injury "did not look good".

Barrett was also critical of the draw his team has been given, forced to back-up for another five-day turnaround when they play South Sydney on Thursday night. Of more immediate concern for Barrett was Cherry-Evans, who failed to finish the game - neither did Jamie Buhrer.

Barrett nominated Issac John or Tim Moltzen as potential replacements should Cherry-Evans be sidelined for an extended period.

"He has gone straight for scans," Barrett said. "It's not looking real good."

Down to a 15-man rotation and having Steve Matai [neck] and Tom Symonds [calf] ruled out before the game, Manly were battered and Barrett said his squad would train just once before they face the Rabbitohs.

"It was one of the bravest effort I've seen in a while that I've been involved with," Barrett said. "I'm proud and happy for them. They kept hanging in.

"It was a great win on a five day turn around.

"It's character building. We'll get so much out of that. They are buggered. They are sore. If they didn't care about each other as much as they do, they would've have won. You can't buy the attitude and commitment they showed.

"They can't train. The whole squad won't do anything until captain's run. We have to rely on what we've done in the pre-season and get them on the field."
