Elliott may have kissed contract goodbye after boozy toilet tryst with NRLW star

The playing future of controversial Canterbury forward Adam Elliott is in jeopardy after he was kicked out of a Gold Coast restaurant whilst in the company of NRLW player and friend Millie Boyle at the weekend.

The Bulldogs have stood down Elliott pending an NRL Integrity Unit investigation into an incident that occurred on Sunday night, when restaurant management asked Elliot to leave the premises when discovered with Boyle in the men’s bathroom.

The Bulldogs board could make a decision on Elliott’s future at the club as early as Tuesday. The incident emerged on the same day Canberra sacked Curtis Scott for an alleged nightclub fight and Cronulla centre Josh Dugan was charged by police for two breaches of COVID-19 orders.

Elliott told Bulldogs officials he was having his first drink in seven months on Sunday, starting with a barbecue with his Bulldogs teammates before moving on to the White Rhino, on the famous Cavill Avenue strip.

Sources with knowledge of what happened told the Herald the Bulldogs back-rower and Boyle were kissing, but were worried about being seen together by a few of the wives and partners of Canterbury players. Many of them remain friends with Elliott’s ex-partner, who has returned to the Top End. Elliott and Boyle made their way to the men’s bathroom for privacy when staff asked him to leave.

Elliott told the NRL Integrity unit he left the premises when asked, no drugs were involved and the incident did not involve the police.

The NRL Integrity Unit are sourcing CCTV footage to corroborate Elliott’s version of events.

Elliott landed in hot water for being photographed drunk at the club’s Mad Monday celebrations in 2018, then again earlier this year when confronted by former teammate Michael Lichaa when caught kissing his partner Kara Childerhouse in the early hours of the morning.

Elliott told the Bulldogs the night with Lichaa was the last time he had a beer. He has continued to undergo alcohol counselling every week and is scheduled to take part in a session on Tuesday afternoon.

Elliott has told those close to him he is surprised the latest incident involving Boyle has led to him being stood down by Canterbury the remaining two games of the season.

Elliott declined to comment while Boyle told News Corp: “Look, all we did was have a kiss in a bathroom. It’s been taken way out of context. It’s a big kerfuffle about nothing. We’re both single and mates from way back.”

Elliott’s camp now privately fear he could be moved on by the club. There have been reports the Bulldogs are under salary-cap pressure, and just last week failed in their bid to have English prop Luke Thompson pursue a deal elsewhere.

The forward was heavily pursued by the New Zealand Warriors last year, but liked the vision of in-coming coach Trent Barrett and re-signed until the end of 2023.

Canterbury chief executive Aaron Warburton said the club were aware of an incident involving Elliott and “the club are currently working with the NRL Integrity Unit regarding the matter.

“As a result the Bulldogs have stood Elliott down from the final two matches of the season, until that process has been completed,” the Bulldogs said in a statement.

Elliott and Boyle both grew up in the Bega region in southern NSW. Boyle was out with Broncos teammate Lauren Brown and Rugby Sevens star Charlotte Caslick on Sunday.
