SUMMARY: A comprehensive victory for Australia in the end, and a comprehensive series win 3-0, despite a last-day scare in that first Test at the Gabba.
Pakistan was always on the back foot here, right from Dave Warner's blistering century before lunch on day one. And the Aussie runs and Pakistan wickets kept coming at a steady rate.
Matt Renshaw and Peter Handscomb made it three centurions in the Australian first innings and allowed a declaration. And immediately when they batted, Pakistan were in trouble at 2/6. Younis Khan battled valiantly for an unbeaten 175, but didn't get enough support.
Australia then knocked up quick runs a second time, Warner now rattling on the second-fastest 50 in Test history. Steve Smith declared again, giving his bowlers 16 overs at the end of day four, enough time for Nathan Lyon to pick up the wicket of Sharjeel.
And day five became a simple clean-up job for Australia, starting from Josh Hazlewood's first-over dismissal of Azhar. The wickets fell steadily thereafter, Pakistan five down at lunch, and the last falling just after the scheduled tea break. Sarfraz was the only batsman to show some resistance, finishing with an unbeaten 72.
Australia's bowlers, both pacemen and spinners did a good job, Hazlewood finishing with a magnificent 3/29 from 18.2 overs, while Steve O'Keefe also grabbed 3/53.
So a summer of Test cricket that appeared in disarray after the debacle against South Africa in Hobart has been turned around brilliantly by the Aussies with four straight Test victories. The introduction of fresh faces like Peter Handscomb and Matt Renshaw has worked, and there's a zest about this combination which was palpably lacking only a couple of months ago.
The upcoming tour of India will be a massive challenge, but one Australia will undertake at least now with some winning form under its belt.
