Australian TV royalty Ray Martin has sold the family holiday home in Coolum for more than 10 times the price he paid for it.
The veteran journalist, Gold Logie-winner and former 60 Minutes presenter bought the site in 2001 for $250,000. It sold on April 7 via private treaty for $2.65 million.
Located in the exclusive Lakes development, where residents receive access to the PGA Palmer Coolum golf course, Martin built a four-bedroom, five-bathroom home for his family to enjoy while holidaying on the Sunshine Coast.
It may technically be considered a townhouse due to its address within the exclusive lakeside community, but this is every bit a sprawling home – with cinema room that opens via bifold doors to allow sitting outside while watching movies on a balmy Queensland evening.
The ground floor is all about entertaining and relaxation, with a large open-plan kitchen/dining/living space. Everything opens up to the outside too, with bifold doors throughout the home to blend indoor and outdoor living.
Numerous decked and terraced areas take advantage of the scenic views, with Mount Coolum and the lake forming a prominent backdrop (which can be seen from the main bedroom).
You also have direct access to the tropical gardens and waterfalls next to the central courtyard, and there’s a tennis court and pool within the complex.
Back inside, there’s a chef’s kitchen with Miele appliances and a plumbed-in double-door fridge.
Upstairs are four spacious ensuite bedrooms, all big enough to be considered primary suites in their own right. But from the main bedroom you have private access to a viewing deck with views straight out to the mountain.
Linking all the bedrooms is a central library or office area.
It’s reported that the buyer is a keen golfer and was enticed by the access to the newly renovated Palmer Coolum Resort and world-class golf course.
Martin is said to have made upgrades to the property in recent years. He and his wife, Dianne, are keen to spend more time with family in Sydney, which motivated the sale.
