From a cheese mansion to nurses’ quarters, these are Perth’s biggest trophy home sales of the year
Trophy home sales significantly increased during 2024 due to the continued strength and confidence in the Perth property market.
Herron Todd White director Chris Hinchcliffe said this year, the Perth market had seen many high multimillion-dollar sales.
“Agents are diligently working behind the scenes, identifying the perfect buyer for trophy homes at the highest possible price, and frequently off-market,” he said.
“Earlier this year, prestige market sales predominantly floated around the $3 million to $5 million mark, with the odd double-digit million dollar sale here or there.
“Many home owners have been able to sit on equity and have options of upgrading their home in this value range to something bigger, as stepping stones through the prestige market space, such as local wealth from the resources sector along with a growing number of international and interstate buyers.”
$25 million: 177 Wellington Street, Mosman Park

This year, Mosman Park set the highest sale record for 2024 thus far with this breathtaking modern tropical design home, the third-most expensive property to sell in WA’s history. But it sold for significantly less than the initially listed price of $33 million from November 2023. This award-winning 2011 built home has an 863-square-metre living area on a 1768-square-metre allotment with four bedrooms and five bathrooms. Additional features include an infinity lap pool with river views, a six-car garage, wine cellar, and a full-sized private tennis court.
$22 million: 3 Owston Street, Mosman Park
Fronting the Swan River in this prime location of Mosman Park, this property has a massive 3020-square-metre sloping allotment adjacent to the river foreshore, with a modest three-bedroom, two-bathroom circa-1950s home, with the potential to subdivide into three lots. This property was sold in February.
$11 million: 4 Duncraig Road, Applecross
Sailing along the Swan River into one of Perth’s most prestigious locations, we arrive at this 2019 architect-designed home with sweeping views of the Perth skyline and river. This 4x3 home has internal living space of 399 square metres on a 1319-square-metre allotment, with plenty of outdoor space wrapping around it. Since selling this property was listed for rent at $2800 per week.
$6.4 million: 18 Callington Avenue, City Beach
A Perth mansion shaped like a “wedge of camembert cheese” sold through private treaty in December. The five-bedroom, three-bathroom house in ritzy City Beach was designed to look like a slice of cheese, with a rind-like white exterior, and buttery timber details inside.
Designed by Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects, it has appeared in nine books and magazines globally. Inside fittings are made from sandstone, glass and polished jarrah.
$5.45 million: 22 Swanview Terrace, South Perth
Taking a look at Perth’s inner-ring suburbs, minutes from the Swan is this one which sold in August. On an 828-square-metre allotment, with an internal living area of 536 square metres split over two levels. The dwelling was built circa 2020 with luxury finishes throughout, featuring five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a powder room, heated swimming pool, wine cellar and a lovely entertaining space.
$5.65 million: 3/11 Brown Street, East Perth
Now a look at some prestige apartments in Perth: this one sold for what equates to $18,000 per metre square. In a central, prime location fronting Claisebrook and Victoria Gardens, this three-bedroom, three-bathroom riverfront apartment features a wrap-around balcony with views of the Swan River, Optus Stadium and Matagarup Bridge. Additional features include a home theatre, three-car parking, large entertaining balcony and wine cellar.
$3.25 million: 77 Litchfield Promenade, Jane Brook
Heading back out of the city, this 2.5-acre hilltop family 4x2 retreat has 180-degree panoramic sunset views over the city and coast. Built around 2020, it sold in June and features a pool and alfresco entertaining area.
Listed for $35 million: 56 Duncraig Road, Applecross
This former nurses’ quarters from the 1920s has been converted into one of Perth’s most expensive homes. This riverside mansion at 56 Duncraig Road in Applecross is presently listed seeking offers from $30 to $35 million, so will potentially break the sale record for Applecross of $19.5 million.
Built on 3204 square metres of land, comprises 848 square metres of internal living space covered with jarrah wood detailing throughout, six bedrooms, ten bathrooms, a 1200-bottle wine cellar, 12-person spa, infinity pool, wellness lounge and a 25-car garage.
Currently WA’s house price record is $57.5 million for a Mosman Park home in 2009, followed by $27.5 million for a Dalkeith home in 2020.
