Block next door to Jeff Bezos for sale for $320m – but there’s no house

For $320 million, you’d think you’d get a house. Think again.
One of the most expensive empty blocks of land in the world has been listed, next door to the world’s second- richest man and America’s first family.
The address in Florida has nothing on it, for an asking price of $US200 million (about $AU320 million) save for a few swaying palms.
The offering is at 9 Indian Creek Island Rd, Miami Beach.
The new owner will become neighbours to billionaire Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, NFL legend Tom Brady, and Ivanka Trump, daughter of incoming President Donald Trump. Businessman Carl Icahn and DJ and record producer David Guetta also call the island home.
Bezos happens to own three homes in the upmarket estate, which cost him more than a quarter of a billion dollars.
The plot, on the elite Indian Creek Island – a private, gated community for the uber-wealthy – covers half a hectare, rolling down to the water.
“Indian Creek is an ultra-private, 300-acre (121 hectares) island with country club and 18-hole golf course located on the beautiful waters of Biscayne Bay and recognised as one of the wealthiest, luxurious and most secure communities in Miami Beach and the world,” the Zillow listing says.
The property launched on the market on December 16, in one of the world’s most exclusive neighbourhoods.
“Private guarded Island with restricted access 24 hours and its own police force by land and marine patrol.”
The block comes with plans for a trophy home, to be created by “billionaire builder” Manny Angelo Varas, the listing advises.
It comes with 60 metres of private water frontage on Biscayne Bay, with distant views of the Miami city skyline.
According to listing broker Ilya Reznik, there is enough space to build a deep-water dock for a 54-metre megayacht.
“It’s a perfect spot to build your dream home,” she tells the New York Post.
She says the sellers originally bought the land for $US27.5 million ($AU44.2 million) in 2018.
“They were originally planning to build, but then plans changed and they decided to sell,” she says.
