Power blackout causes chaos in Perth CBD as people stuck in lifts

A power blackout has plunged the Perth CBD into chaos this morning leaving three workers stranded in lifts.

Nearly 2700 Western Power customers in Perth, West Perth and East Perth were left without power for about half an hour this morning.

That had dropped to about 1777 customers by 8.20am.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services officers responded to three callouts for people stuck in lifts.

Firefighters from Perth and Daglish stations rescued three people from lifts at three different buildings on Adelaide Terrace, Pier Street and Hay Street.

The outages caused issues with City of Perth CCTV networks and parking machines.

City of Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas told 6PR the outages were the result of an error or malfunction at a nearby Western Power substation.

The outages were resolved by 9am.
