Maintenance work sparks cancellations and delays on Perth trains

By staff writers

Trains on the Midland, Armadale, Thornlie and Fremantle lines were significantly delayed and in some cases cancelled on Wednesday morning after maintenance works in the CBD overnight.

Trains should be back on schedule by 7am before peak commuter traffic.

Trains should be back on schedule by 7am before peak commuter traffic.

Transperth personnel were conducting work on overhead lines in Perth's city centre when a hinge broke, which made it impossible to turn power back on safely, Transperth spokesman David Hynes said.

"That meant we couldn't get trains to leave from the Claisebrook depot," he said.

The problem was fixed by 5:15am and trains were expected to be back on schedule by 7am, Mr Hynes said.

"We are working to get things back on the timetable. It won't affect peak traffic," he said.

Train replacement buses have been organised for early-bird commuters.
