Police are appealing for the public’s help to identify a man who indecently assaulted a 15-year-old girl in Aubin Grove on Sunday.
Detectives from the child abuse squad are investigating the attack, which happened about 8am on December 29, when the girl stopped for a break on a park bench as she ran through the Banksia Eucalypt Woodland Park.
Detective Senior Sergeant Chantal Langthorn said a man approached the teenager and sat beside her before indecently touching her.
She broke free and contacted police, giving them details of her attacker that have been used to create an identikit of the man.
He is described as about 40 years old, 170 centimetres tall, of large build, with short grey/brown hair.
The girl said he was wearing a light blue polo top and black track pants at the time.
“It was a traumatic experience, a traumatic ordeal for any person, especially a young female who’s just going on her daily activity of going for a run, trying to have some fitness and even further, for any parent, this is a parent’s nightmare, what’s happened to this child,” Langthorn said.
“She handled the situation very maturely, but she was shaken, as you would imagine.”
Langthorn said there were concerns the incident would be repeated.
“Anyone, juvenile or adults would be very vulnerable in this area.” she said.
“It’s slightly off the beaten track. It’s quite a natural area.”
Anyone who can identify the person pictured, or has any information relating to this incident, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
