A commuter headache is evolving for residents of Perth's eastern suburbs after a passenger train crashed into a car parked on the train line in Maddington on Thursday morning.
Police and emergency services are responding to the crash, which happened just before 5am near the intersection of Albany Highway and The Crescent.
Luckily the train was empty and there was nobody in the car, which was parked on the train line near the railway crossing point, at the time of the crash.
Police are working to confirm whether the car, a red Jeep SUV, was stolen from a nearby dealership.
Trains on the Armadale Line are cancelled between Cannington and Armadale and replacement buses are running, according to Transperth's latest advice at 6.15am.
It is expected the railway crossing will be blocked for an extended period of time and motorists are advised to consider alternative routes or expect extended delays.
Albany Highway has been closed in both directions between River Avenue and Helm Street, while The Crescent has been closed in both directions between Albany Highway and Penn Street, causing heavy traffic congestion in the area.
More to come.
