Anyone who drove their car on Saturday night as the South-West was lashed by heavy wind and rain had to have a very good reason for being out and about.

. . . And a driver's licence.

. . . And a good idea of what they had on them and in their vehicle.

A licence check in Bridgetown led to the search of a vehicle and the alleged discovery of a quantity of magic mushrooms.

Just before 7pm, police stopped a Mazda utility on Gifford Road for a random breath test and licence check.

Police allege that check indicated the driver was unlicensed. They then searched the two male occupants and the vehicle.

. . . And that's when police say they began seeing things.

During the search police allegedly seized what they believe to be about three grams of cannabis and 173 grams of Psylocibin (Magic) Mushrooms. Smoking implements were also said to have been found.

A 37-year-old man from Hester Brook has been summonsed to appear on charges of drug possession and driving without a licence.
