A 15-year-old schoolboy has been arrested and charged over the alleged assault of a 14-year-old at a shopping centre in Perth’s north-east on Wednesday that reportedly left him with a broken jaw requiring surgery.
Witnesses claim they saw a group of boys at the Ellenbrook Central shopping centre near a café when an altercation ensued and the victim had his head “stomped on”.
The incident allegedly happened at Ellenbrook Central.
WA Police said the victim was approached by the group, who were known to him, before he was assaulted.
The victim’s father took to social media to confirm his son had suffered a number of seizures and had his jaw broken in two places after the incident attracted attention online.
He also said the teen was in spinal precautions and had to undergo surgery on Thursday morning.
The father claimed that other children were filming the alleged assault and posting footage online.
The students are believed to be from Aveley Secondary College.
According to WA Police, officers were called to the shopping centre about 4.20pm in response to the incident where they stated that the victim received “serious facial injuries” and was conveyed to hospital for treatment.
“A 15-year-old male has been arrested and charged with one count of ‘Acts intended to cause harm or endanger the life, health or safety of any person’,” a police spokesperson said.
The teen was released on bail and will appear in Midland Children’s Court at a later date.
