A passerby found him just after 9pm and alerted authorities, but the man could not be saved.

Major Crash Investigation detectives said at the time he had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle, but they were keeping an open mind.

However, on Wednesday police charged Wong with careless driving causing death, failing to stop and ensure assistance received after incident occasioning death, and failing to report an incident occasioning death.

He was refused bail and remanded in custody overnight, on Thursday appearing in Perth Magistrates Court with the help of a Cantonese translator.

His lawyer applied for an adjournment of the matter and for Wong to be released on bail which was approved.

The court heard Wong, who was supported by his son, has no prior convictions and was directed to surrender his passports and report to Mirrabooka Police Station daily as part of his bail conditions.

He will be back before the court on October 3.
