A truck driver has hurtled towards a bridge over the Princes Freeway with his trailer raised, much to the horror of other motorists.

But the truck came off second best.

The second trailer was ripped off the truck's rig and left standing on its end against the bridge.

Dash cam footage of the crash caught by a trailing driver shows the truck’s trailer completely raised before hitting the Doherty’s road bridge in Laverton North about midday.

The man driving the truck and surrounding motorists escaped without injury.

Police are still investigating and ask anyone who saw the incident or has dash cam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.

Drivers were told to expect delays of 45 minutes as VicRoads staff worked to clear the wreckage. There were delays back over the West Gate bridge and pushing back to the Bolte Bridge heading outbound, a VicRoads spokesman said.

By 6.30pm all outbound lanes had been reopened.
