A man has been charged with murder after two people were shot dead in a home on the Mornington Peninsula earlier this month.

Jack Gilmour, 29, and Charlyze “Charli” Hayter, 19, were found with fatal gunshot wounds after a fight allegedly occurred shortly after 4am on December 2 at the Rye home where Gilmour was living.

Hayter and another man allegedly broke into the Parson Street home before an altercation with residents ensued.

On Friday afternoon, Victoria Police announced four men in their 20s from Melbourne’s south-east had been arrested over the incident.

Around 10pm, the force revealed a 24-year-old Narre Warren man has been charged with murder, aggravated home invasion and armed robbery. He was remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on May 23 next year.

Charlyze Hayter, better known as Charli, was killed in Rye early on Monday, December 2.

“It’s alleged the parties involved were known to each other,” police said.

The three other men – aged 24, 25, and 28 – were interviewed but released pending further investigation, police said.

Days after the deaths, Hayter’s grandfather, Bob Hayter, told The Age: “I am absolutely devastated by my granddaughter’s death, as is the rest of my family.”
