Disgraced former AFL player manager Ricky Nixon has been charged over an online post in which he allegedly named and threatened a serving police officer.

A separate Facebook comment posted from Nixon’s account, seen by The Age, also said he was “on a mission” to kill as many police officers as possible.

The comment was posted in response to followers asking Nixon if he was alright.

“No on a mission to leave as meany [sic] cop c---s dead,” it said.

Victoria Police confirmed officers had arrested the 62-year-old in Port Melbourne on Thursday morning over a social media post that allegedly threatened a police officer.

“[He] was taken into custody, where he will be interviewed by detectives,” a spokeswoman said. “The investigation remains ongoing.”

They charged Nixon later on Thursday with intimidating a law enforcement officer, making a threat to kill and using a carriage service to menace. Nixon was granted bail, and is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on July 4.

The nature of the alleged threats to the officer is unclear.

But one of Nixon’s followers appears to taunt the ex-AFL player in the comment section of another post on Monday.

“Got those cops yet chicken ?? Toot root,” the comment says.

Nixon, who also goes by the nickname “chicken” on social media, is fighting allegations that he sold fake premiership memorabilia in October 2021 in court.

The 62-year-old is facing 10 counts of obtaining property by deception over several footballs he claimed were signed by Melbourne Football Club players after their AFL premiership win.

During a shambolic court appearance in February, Nixon, who represented himself, clashed with magistrate Brett Sonnet over his plans to call 48 witnesses – including AFL players – to give evidence.

Sonnet told the court he had “never, ever heard of any defence calling 50-odd witnesses” in more than three decades working in criminal law, and warned Nixon the court would accommodate a hearing, but not one “which has effectively turned into a circus”.

That case is due to return to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in June.

Nixon could also face fresh bankruptcy proceedings over an alleged $40,000 debt over a deal with the high-flying director of a collapsed freight empire to sell five corporate hospitality tickets to the AFL grand final last year. Nixon has denied any wrongdoing and claimed the debt was about $900.
