'Riding like a lunatic': Police tried to stop motorcyclist before crash
A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after speeding away from a police traffic stop and "riding like a lunatic" before crashing into a car, according to police.
Gold Coast officers tried to pull the motorbike over just before 7pm on Friday as part of a routine traffic intercept, but the rider sped away.

Soon after, police were called to a crash at the intersection of Rio Vista and Hooker Boulevards in Broadbeach Waters where the motorbike had smashed into a car.
The rider, a 43-year-old man, suffered non-life-threatening chest and pelvic injuries and was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
The car driver, a 24-year-old man, was uninjured.
The forensic crash unit was investigating, but no charges have been laid at this stage.
