Investigations suggested the man was punched in the face before he fell backwards onto a hard surface, police said at the time.
He was transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women's hospital in a critical condition.
In an update on Wednesday, police said a Maroochydore man, 31, charged with grievous bodily harm over the incident was expected to have his charges upgraded.
The man appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court this week and was due to return to court on February 19.
Anyone with more information or footage of the incident was urged to contact police.
